Qurbani 2013

For its Qurbani programme this year, Ummah Welfare Trust is giving you the opportunity to support Muslims in 17 countries and provide them with the means to celebrate Eid. From Senegal to the Philippines, thousands of animals will be sacrificed in the name of Allah and their meat distributed to the needy.

The principle of sacrifice is the very essence of Eid al-Adha. On this day Allah commanded Ibrahim 'alaiyis-salaam to offer his beloved son Ismail in the ultimate act of obedience. In His infinite mercy, Allah then replaced Ismail with a ram and the festival of Eid al-Adha was born.

Ummah Welfare Trust purchases animals well in advance for its Qurbani programme. The animals are fed, looked after and checked to ensure they are the right age. Surveys to identify deserving recipients also take place well before the slaughtering of the animals after Eid salaah.

Regarding this great act of worship, Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala says in the Glorious Qur'an:

'It is neither the meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him. Thus have We made them subject to you that you may magnify Allah for His Guidance to you. And give glad tidings (O Muhammad SallAllahu 'alaihi wasallam) to the Muhsinun (doers of good).' (22:37)
