Foreign Student Centres
Helping Foreign Students in Mauritania
Country: Mauritania
Districts: Nouakchott, Hod Charky, Hod
Town/Village: Agoinit, Beribafa, Guirou, Libhair
Mauritania has a tradition of hosting Islamic students from all over West Africa and from neighbouring North African countries. Since the Almoravids era, people have been coming from all corners of the world to increase their knowledge of the Quran and Islam by attending the Islamic schools in Mauritania. Even graduates from prestigious Islamic universities go to Mauritania to polish their knowledge and increase their standing.
Mauritania has a lot of foreign students who are learning whilst living in very tough conditions. Some are even begging on the street to feed themselves. They are also exposed to some serious medical risks.
This project is looking towards structuring these students into groups of ten. A house will be rented for the group somewhere close to the schools. They will then be provided with food regularly and a provisional fund setup for urgent needs (medical, fees etc.).
