Horticultural Garden
Mauritania Horticultural Garden Project
Country: Mauritania
District: El Hud Sharky
Town/Village: Agoinit
This unique project is aimed at setting up a horticultural garden for two hundred women in Mauritania. The garden will be 200 metre square, fenced with chain link. It will include two cemented water reservoirs that will be filled by motorised water pumps.
The project will also provide the community with seedlings, fertilisers and gardening tools. Legumes will be cultivated and Date trees will also be planted in the Garden. The project will directly benefit the Agoinit women community and the Nehma district at large. The crops harvested in the garden will allow the Nehma district residents to diversify their meals. It will give them access to food items considered very rare, almost non-existent in the desert area. The income from the sale of the crops will be used for the members’ household needs and also for the general community according to who is in need the most.
