The current location for a Dialysis Unit is at the Maryam Hospital in Jamalpur Ahmedabad, India. The dialysis unit has ten machines which are providing dialysis treatment to 10 patients a day, after some research by our partner organisations into the demand for Dialysis treatment in Ahmedabad and surrounding areas, it quickly became apparent that there is a great need to expand the current Dialysis Unit, many patients were being turned away & many were only receiving dialysis maybe once or twice weekly & sometimes monthly due to lack of spaces, when they needed regular treatment.

Proposed Project

The Ummah Medical Academy (UMA) is being constructed at Behrampura area of Ahmedabad in India to expand the current Dialysis treatment and start a Cataract and Surgical ward at UMA.

The land (1800 sq ft) where the hospital is being built has been donated by an elderly lady and already the outer work for 4 floors has been done, this is an ideal location to have a Dialysis Centre which will have 20 dialysis machines, 2 floors would be dedicated for Dialysis, 1 floor for the Opthalmo Dept, to carry out Cataract operations & 1 floor for a Surgical Ward (mini ICU). The four floors of UMA will cover 5100 sq ft.

There is great need of such a facility in a place like Ahmedabad, as it is home to hundreds of thousands of people with no free access to medical treatment, many patients travel between 10 and 150 km’s to access such services, many hundreds will benefit from the Dialysis Centre & many thousands from the Opthalmo. Dept. where cataract operations will be performed. It is also extremely distressing that many people in India die every year because they cannot afford to pay for the life saving Dialysis treatment.

Total remaining cost of the project is: £78,000
Construction cost of one floor: £17,760
Construction cost of one square foot: £18 (5100 sq foot in total)
