Russia

Russia holds the largest Muslim population of any country in Europe. Muslims mostly belong to the country's traditional ethnic minorities and account for around 15 million (including those in the annexed Crimea) of the 146 million population.

Following the collapse of Communism, masjids opened in virtually every Muslim village during the 90s - in the North Caucasus, but also in the Volga region and in parts of Siberia.

Today Russia's mass poverty continues to rise with estimates suggesting that at least a third of the country is defined as 'poor.' Muslim communities remain sharply affected.

Alhamdulillah in 2018 Ummah Welfare Trust began supporting small madrassahs in Kazan, the capital of Russia's Volga region. Teachers are today being reimbursed, ensuring a free Islamic education for hundreds of children.
