Income Generation Update (June to November 2012)

    'It is better that a person should take a rope and bring a bundle of wood on his back to sell so that Allah may preserve his honour, than that he should beg from people (regardless of) whether they give to him or refuse him.'

    Ummah Welfare Trust's income generating projects allow autonomy and self-sufficiency, helping families secure a regular income with which they can buy food and medicines.

    In the recent months Ummah Welfare Trust has administered and completed the following income generation schemes, alhamdulillah:

    Somalia

    1000 goats were distributed in the Bay and Bakol regions of Somalia. Two hundred herding families each received 5 goats.

    India

    In Sunderban, 20 heads of families each received cycle rickshaws. Eighty widows were provided with small business start-ups.

    Philippines

    On the Zamboanga island the following was administered:

    • 60 heads of families were provided with fishing boats
    • 15 heads of families were provided with vegetable stalls
    • 15 heads of families were provided with fish stalls
    • 15 heads of families were provided with fruit stalls
    • 12 families was provided with equipment, such as chainsaws, grass cutters, welding machines and fishing nets.
    • 10 heads of families were trained to become cooked food vendors
    • 10 heads of families were provided with accessory stalls
    • 3 heads of families were provided with clothes stalls
    • 1 car wash was established

    Palestine

    2 unemployed fathers have each received tuk tuk rickshaws to help them earn an income for their families.
