Qurbani Summary 2012

Ummah Welfare Trust spent £1,040,870 for this year’s Qurbani projects – the largest amount since the charity’s inception alhamdulillah.

The Qurbani programme has always been a crucial part of the relief work at Ummah Welfare Trust. With preparations starting months in advance, Ummah Welfare Trust purchased suitable animals, fed them and then sought out the most deserving recipients.

This year, through the generosity of donors, the blessings of Eid reached poor Muslim communities in 18 countries around the world – including for the first time in Syria. A total of 4348 large animals and 5096 small animals were sacrificed alhamdulillah.

Thousands of poor Muslim families in Palestine, Syria and Iraq received Udhiyah meat alhamdulillah. Families in these blessed regions have suffered greatly but their standing with Allah, Glory be to Him, is great inshaAllah. Ummah Welfare Trust asks Allah to accept its efforts in these areas.

In Pakistan, 3,450 animals were sacrificed for the long-standing flood victims of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan. While from Pakistan, the Udhiya meat of over 1000 animals was trucked to poverty-stricken families in Afghanistan and Kashmir alhamdulillah.

Nearly 2,000 cows were sacrificed across India. Poor rural families in Sunderban and suffering in the on-going violence in Assam received fresh meat. In Burma, 280 large cows were sacrificed; 100 of these were sacrifced in Arakan state and distributed to displaced families suffering there.

Alhamdulillah Udhiyah meat was also enjoyed across the African continent in Gambia, Kenya, Malawi, Senegal, Somalia and Sudan.

Over half a million Muslims benefitted from this year’s Qurbani thanks to the generosity of Ummah Welfare Trust’s donors. The charity asks Allah to accept the sacrificing of these animals on behalf of all of its donors. As He says in the Glorious Qur’an:

‘It is neither the meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is piety from you that reaches Him. Thus have We made them subject to you that you may magnify Allah for His Guidance to you. And give glad tidings (O Muhammad Sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) to the Muhsinun (doers of good).’ (22:37)
