    Clean Water in Gaza

    Providing Clean Water - Gaza

Over-pumping of groundwater by the Israelis has meant wells in Gaza have become salinated to the point of being unusable. The growing quantity of untreated water has led to rise in skin infections and water borne infections among children. More worrying still, are the rising cases of heart failure, kidney failure and bone fluorosis. This water is well below World Health Organisation (WHO) standards and is slowly poisoning Gaza.

For the past two years, Ummah Welfare Trust has been trucking water to needy families, schools and hospitals in Gaza. The water is treated and supplied by the Khubaib ibn Adiy water desalination plant. Due to heavy use of the plant however– sadly a necessity – the desalination unit recently broke down.

Your donations allowed Ummah Welfare Trust to respond and provide a new desalination unit for the plant. With this new unit, Ummah Welfare Trust can continue trucking water to needy families in Gaza.

Currently, the truck distributes clean drinking water to 150 poor families, 12 schools, 2 masjids and 1 hospital every week. Alhamdulillah, thousands – which include patients, students, worshippers and children – receive clean water every day. The hifz students in Ummah Welfare Trust’s Tahfeezul Quran project also benefit from the provision of clean water.

The UWT truck travels to Gaza city, Jabalia Camp, Beit Lahiya and Al-Tuffah. Every month 600 cubic metres of clean water are distributed to these areas. Families are grateful to Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala for the generosity of Ummah Welfare Trust’s donors and hope they will continue to remember the suffering of the Palestinian people in their efforts and prayers.
