Charity raises £200,000 in one night

The recent Israeli bombardment of Gaza left hundreds dead and thousands injured and homeless. A Bradford based organisation Unite for Gaza organised the Stop the Siege in Gaza fundraising event yesterday evening in partnership with Ummah Welfare Trust (UWT). Over one thousand people participated in the event held at Rio Grande, with George Galloway as the guest speaker.

To the organisers’ surprise, over £150,000 was raised for the victims of Gaza and a further £50,000 through the auction. This is an unprecedented amount Bradford has ever raised in one night. The funds will be used by UWT to reconstruct homes, provide medical aid and regenerate the economy of Palestine.

Director of UWT, Shaykh Mohammad Ahmed said in a statement, “True to the humanitarian spirit, the citizens of Bradford have showed solidarity with the Palestinian people by participating in the masses and donating to alleviate the suffering. On behalf of UWT, I would like to thank all the donors, participants and organisers of the highly successful event.”
