Eye tests for children

He it is Who created for you ears and eyes and hearts. Small thanks do you give!
    (Surah Al-Mu’minun, Verse 78)

80% of Gazans live below the poverty line. Most families cannot pay for their children’s eye care. This has led to severe visual impairment for many Palestinian children and has obstructed their educational advancements by the time they reach young adulthood.

According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, one in five students had to leave school early because of some form of visual impairment. Children aged between 5 to 12 are most likely to suffer from a visual impairment and related problems.

UWT is providing free eye tests and other forms of medical care to thousands of children, many of whom had become orphans following the Israeli atrocities in January 2009. Following tests, UWT will dispense glasses to the specific needs of each child.

This March, 400 children had their eyes tested, 53 of those needed glasses. Many required general eye treatment to keep their eyes healthy.

    Rasulullah Salallahu ‘alayhi wasalam said,
“He is not of us who does not have mercy on our young nor honours our elders"
     (Al Tirmidhi)
