    A Map of Niger

Niger is currently facing a Severe Food crisis due to the irregular rain they have encountered, which in a country that is covered by two thirds Sahara desert has had detrimental effects, such as widespread crop failure and grazing land drying up which has caused the weakening or death of essential live stock. Due to this the price of food has escalated forcing more families deeper into poverty.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has said, “It is not becoming of a Muslim to sleep on a full stomach whilst those around him (his neighbours) go hungry.”
    (al-Hakim, al-Bayhaqi, at-Tabarani, and al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad)

Families are now being forced to reduce the amount of food that they eat which was already minimal else they have to resort to eating food that was intended for animals. Other families are taking their children out of school and sending them out to find work to support the family.

Without immediate help its estimated 1 in 8 children aged under five will die within the next month, whilst more than 350,000 children face severe malnutrition. Children suffering malnutrition in the first two years of their life face serious impairment to their physical and mental development. This damage is irreversible and will affect their education, lifelong health and ability to earn an income.

Malnourished children are at a far greater risk of dying from common, treatable conditions such as pneumonia, measles, diarrhea and malaria, simply because they're too weak to fight the disease.

This is why UWT have launched an emergency Food Aid and Clothing campaign where we intend to distribute £100,000 worth of Food immediately. Clothing and shoes have been dispatched from China as gifts in preparation for Eid. We pray these people can survive to see Eid.
