Press Release
Headline: Trekked the Great Wall of China to feed the poor and quench their thirst.
Recently a group of youth and community workers along with some charity workers went to China on a mission to trek 50 kilometres of the Great Wall of Chain in aid of raising money for charity. The diverse group came together from London, Manchester and Bradford with the aim of raising as much sponsorship as possible.
To date over 15K has been raised but the team is expecting to reach over 20k within the next month. The money will go towards building water wells in Asia and Africa where access to pure drinking water is becoming a rare committee. Water well building has already started in Bangladesh and within a few weeks the construction of wells in other countries will soon commence.
Furthermore at least 3 horticultural projects will be established in 3 different districts of Mauritania. So if you have not yet donated, you still have the opportunity to change lives by donating via http://www.justgiving.com/UWTChinaTrek
Funds from the sponsorships will be invested towards providing the community with seedlings, fertilizers and gardening tools. Legumes will be cultivated and date trees will also be planted in the Garden. The project will directly benefit the Agoinit women community.
The crops harvested in the garden will allow residents to diversify their meals. It will give them access to food items considered very rare, almost non-existent in the desert area. The income from the sale of the crops will be used for the members’ household needs and also for the general community according to who is in need the most.
Ummah Welfare Trust, which operates on a 100% donation policy, will be the delivery agency for the relief work, for more information please click here.
Eman Ali, the group leader, stated “I am overwhelmed with the support that the team has received. Thousands of life’s can be better improved through this project. I hope this initiative will inspire others to get involved in charity/community work at a local or national level as there is much to be done.”
Rofikul Islam, one of the participants of the group, commented "we would like to thank all our sponsors, who have entrusted us with their hard earned money to delivery these noble causes, which will be a lifeline for many of our beneficiaries. Trekking the Great Wall of China was a difficult task for some of us, but there are people in Asia and Africa who are trekking endless miles in the burning heat just so that they can access clean water or get some food. I hope we can ease the pain and suffering of some of these people through our small initiative"
