Supporting Students in Sudan

Dar al Tahfeezul Qur'an is one of the oldest schools in East Sudan. Thousands of students have graduated from the school, with many now teaching the Qur'an in other schools.

Things became difficult for this school in the Red Sea state around a year ago. A shortage of funds meant that had it to stop providing the free meals that its students had become accustomed to.

To cover costs, the school began charging for its services. Many poor students were therefore left with no choice but to drop out.

Alhamdulillah, Ummah Welfare Trust was informed of the situation and, appreciating the need for 'tarbiyyah' and knowledge in the Ummah, began subsidising the school.

The impact was great. Teachers could teach freely again, and students, who had previously left, came back to complete their studies of the Qur'an.

Alhamdulillah, today, students at Dar al Tahfeezul Qur'an learn and memorise the Qur'an while receiving three free meals a day.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
'The best amongst you is the one who learns the Qur'an and teaches it.'
