Income Generating Projects New Project
Income Generating Projects allow autonomy and self-sufficiency. As well as helping families secure much needed income with which to buy necessary food and medicines.

It is a way of restoring dignity amongst the poor and an important source of self-confidence, it also restores hope that as an individual they can bring about positive change in their own lives.

UWT has taken on this challenge and aims to expand this project in various countries around the world

Ten goats = £250

Palestine

The North Gaza governorate is considered to be one of the most productive agricultural lands in Palestine. Most of its residents are farmers who depend on agriculture for their basic source of income. Like other Palestinian governorates, North Gaza has been exposed to several invasions by the Israeli forces, which have dug up thousands of dunums of agricultural lands. As a result, thousands of Palestinian families have lost their basic source of income and live in poverty and deprivation.

Description of the project:

Due to the aggression, siege and suffering being experienced by Palestinian families in Gaza, many Palestinian families have lost their basic source of income and require urgent help and support. Food aid is temporary and does not solve the problem. The project, therefore, aims to fund small development projects that contribute to strengthening the steadfastness of the Palestinian family and reducing the poverty rate by providing them with job opportunities and a source of income. The project seeks to support poor rural families by providing 100 permanent job opportunities in the following two ways:

1. Honey bee apiaries projects: Families receive small apiaries for honey production (each apiary consists of seven hives with full equipment for the production of honey)

2. Farms for rabbit breeding: Families receive a small rabbit breeding farm (each farm includes 4 big rabbits in addition to cages and fodder required to the breeding process)

Farmers of both genders are trained to manage their project based on its needs, production and marketing, and a comparison of the economic situation before and after a full productive period will be made. Even if initially they are limited, such projects are continuous and can be developed. The proposed apiary, for example, should expand by at least a third in each productive period (one year), from 7 to 10 to 14 hives and so on.

In order to ensure the success of the project, an agreement is made with the target group to make best use of the property and not to sell it. Furthermore, periodic administrative and financial reports and media documentation of all phases is made.

Apiary
£400 for preparing small apiaries (a place where beehives of honey bees are kept).
(This includes 7 hives, preservation suit, frames, smoke blower)

Rabbit Farm
£120 for preparing small rabbit farm.
(This includes rabbits (3 female and 1 male), cages, fodder)

India

The state of Bihar is one of the poorest states of India. It is often called India’s “basket case” or “failed state”. In a ranking of all states, it comes out at the bottom, or very near the bottom in almost all social and economic development indicators. Bihar’s record has a major effect on the national record in poverty alleviation and other indicators, as, with a population of 83 million, Bihar is the third largest state in the country. One-seventh of India’s below-the-poverty-line (BPL) people live in Bihar.

UWT has initiated Sewing Machine Training Projects in the region for Widows and Poor Women.

UWT has also initiated Income Generating Projects in the states of Gujarat and Maharshta. Some poor people have been provided with funds for small business enterprises with a mutual understanding they will donate a percentage of the profits to charity. The following projects are available in the region:

Sewing Machine – £70
Auto-Rickshaw – £1600
Loading Rickshaw – £2000
Small Business Enterprise – Minimum Investment will be £3000.
