Why
help construct a house?
Shelter is one of the three
basic necessities that man requires. In areas of emergency relief,
where houses have been either destroyed or damaged, UWT aims to
provide basic housing for the needy. Starting from temporary
measures such as tents and basic "shed" houses, UWT aims to help
re-house people with the facility of running water. Costs vary
between locations and types of housing provided.
The Islamic injunctions for this
kind of support are the general ones where we are urged to want for
others as what we want for ourselves.
Also the
Hadith of the Masjid uses the term "house for Allah", which although
is taken to mean a Masjid, can as easily be taken to mean providing
shelter to the needy.
The Prophet (peace be upon
him) has said, ‘Whosoever builds a house for the pleasure of Allah,
whether it be small or large, Allah builds for him a house in
paradise.’

Hibban, Abu Dawud, and Ahmad)
Home for the Elderly and Orphans Project in Burma
The aim of this project is to provide low cost
homes for the elderly and families with orphans. The need was
identified by one of our volunteers who visited Burma in January
2007. There are many helpless families and elderly couples who are
living in miserable conditions and in temporary homes without
adequate shelters. UWT has embarked upon a housing programme to
build permanent homes for these families. The cost is estimated to
be around £1,000 per home. |
