Gaza Appeal 2008 - Appeal Initiated 23/01/2008

The policy of stranglehold blockade on the Gaza Strip, Palestine has escalated, entering a catastrophic phase with the total shutdown of electricity, with all aspects of daily life grinding to a halt, in addition to the complete closure of all the border crossings, turning the area into a giant prison.

The blockade is affecting 1.5 million people in the Gaza Strip, denying them the right to free movement, and the entry of food, humanitarian, and medical supplies. Conditions in Gaza have taken a turn for the worse, and are extremely perilous, especially with the loss of electricity to homes, and civil and educational establishments. Hospitals have been paralysed, unable to perform surgical procedures, or care for critically ill patients. Read More.

 

Bangladesh Cyclone Sidr Appeal - Appeal Initiated 17/11/2007

Thousands dead and many more missing. Authorities put the death toll from Cyclone Sidr at 2,300. However, Bangladesh's Red Crescent society says up to 10,000 may have died and Red Cross officials say almost one million families have been affected.

Cyclone Sidr, which struck late on Thursday, brought winds of up to 240km/h (150mph) and a tidal surge of several metres. It destroyed or damaged tens of thousands of homes, brought down power lines and wiped out vital crops.

Tens of thousands of survivors are now struggling for basic necessities like tents, rice and drinking water. Read More
