Bangladeshi expatriates in the UK Sunday celebrated
the 36th Victory Day in a festive manner along with raising funds
for Sidr victims.
Different socio-cultural organisations organised discussion
meetings, cultural programmes and Doa Mahfils at many places in the
United Kingdom, marking the Victory Day, according to a message
received here today.
Bangladesh Association Liverpool organised a discussion meeting at
its office premises. Hundreds of Bangladeshis and foreigners took
part in the function.
Association president Mahmud Hussain presided over the discussion
meeting. Former Bangladesh Prime Minister's Assistant Press
Secretary and journalist M Mushfiqul Fazal, clinical fellow of Royal
Liverpool Hospital Dr Hani Hassan, coordinator of Ummah Welfare
Trust Amjad Yusuf spoke at the meeting as guest speakers.
Mumin Khan and Wahidul Islam also spoke at the function conducted by
Jamshed Alam, general secretary of the Liverpool Bangladesh
Association.
The speakers said that as Bangladeshis they feel proud since the
nation attained independence through nine months front line battle.
The V-Day discussion turned into a fund-raising event as a good
number of Bangladeshis and foreigners donated money for the Nov 15
Sidr victims.
The Association decided to distribute the money jointly with Ummah
Welfare Trust in the UK and Human and Environment Welfare
Association in Dhaka.
